Saif Ali Khan Attack Case: Bandra Court Sends Accused to Police Custody for 5 Days

Answer By law4u team

The Bandra Court on Sunday remanded Mohammad Shariful Islam Shahzad, the 30-year-old Bangladeshi national accused of stabbing Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, to five days of police custody. Shahzad, who had entered India illegally and assumed the identity Vijay Das, was arrested by Mumbai Police on Saturday after a 70-hour manhunt.

Key Details:

  • Health Update: Saif Ali Khan, admitted to Lilavati Hospital, is recovering well and expected to be discharged within two to three days.
  • Attack Details: Shahzad reportedly broke into Khan’s residence intending to rob but turned violent, stabbing the actor six times. The nanny was also injured during the altercation.
  • Capture: Police tracked Shahzad using CCTV footage and a digital trail from a Google Pay transaction. He was found hiding near mangroves in Thane.

Investigation Highlights:

  • Shahzad allegedly changed his name upon entering India to conceal his Bangladeshi origins.
  • Authorities suspect Shahzad entered India illegally and are investigating the documentation used for his entry.
  • No prior criminal record of Shahzad has been found, according to Mumbai Police.

The defense lawyer argued that the arrest was illegal due to the absence of prior notice and claimed Shahzad is being scapegoated due to the high-profile nature of the case.
