How many types of GST are there, and what are their rates?

Answer By law4u team

In India, there are four types of GST (Goods and Services Tax) rates, which are based on the category of goods and services. These rates are: 5% GST - This rate applies to essential goods such as edible oil, sugar, tea, coffee, and medicines. 12% GST - This rate applies to goods such as computers, processed food items, and luxury items like watches and footwear priced above Rs. 1000. 18% GST - This rate applies to goods such as telecom services, hotel accommodation, financial services, and restaurants that do not serve alcohol. 28% GST - This rate applies to luxury goods such as automobiles, cigarettes, and aerated drinks, and certain high-end products. In addition to these four rates, there is a zero percent GST rate, which is applicable to certain goods and services like fruits and vegetables, milk, and books. Also, there are some goods and services which are exempt from GST, such as healthcare and education services, and some basic food items like unprocessed cereals, meat, and fish.
