No, court marriage in India cannot be completed fully online. However, some parts of the process may be done online in certain states, but the final marriage must be done physically before the Marriage Officer. 1. Legal requirement (important) Under the Special Marriage Act, 1954: Marriage must be solemnized in person before the Marriage Officer Presence of bride, groom, and 3 witnesses is mandatory Physical verification and signatures are required So, a fully online court marriage is not legally valid. 2. What can be done online in some states Some states allow partial online facilities such as: Downloading and filling notice of intended marriage Online appointment booking with Marriage Registrar Uploading documents for verification Tracking application status But these are only procedural steps, not the marriage itself. 3. Final mandatory steps The couple must: Appear in person before the Marriage Officer Complete verification after 30-day notice period Sign marriage register Take oath/consent before officer and witnesses 4. Why physical presence is required Because law requires: Verification of identity and consent Prevention of fraud or forced marriage Witness confirmation Legal authentication by Marriage Officer 5. Common misconception Many people think “court marriage online” means fully digital marriage, but legally: Only registration process can be partially digital Marriage solemnization is always offline 6. Summary Court marriage in India cannot be done completely online. Online systems may help with forms and appointments, but the actual marriage must be conducted physically before the Marriage Officer with witnesses under the Special Marriage Act, 1954.
