It prescribes penalties, including fines and imprisonment, for those found guilty of such offenses. The severity of the punishment depends on the extent of the damage caused. Liability of Organizations: If an offense is committed by a company, society, or association, the person in charge of the entity at the time of the offense may be held liable. This is meant to deter organizations from allowing or encouraging acts of vandalism. Recovery of Damages: The Act provides for the recovery of the costs of repairing or restoring the damaged property from those found guilty of causing the damage. The recovery can be initiated by the government authorities. Cognizance and Trial: The Act states that no court shall take cognizance of any offense under this Act except on a complaint made by the government or any authorized officer. Protection of Action in Good Faith: The Act provides protection to government officials who take action in good faith to prevent damage to public property or to recover the costs of repair. Search and Seizure: The Act empowers authorized officers to enter premises, search for evidence, and seize property related to the offense. The Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act emphasizes the importance of protecting public property and ensuring that individuals are held accountable for any damage they cause.
