A court marriage application can be rejected if the legal requirements for marriage are not fulfilled or if there are issues with the documents or eligibility of the parties. Common reasons for rejection include: Age Requirement Not Met If the groom is below 21 years of age or the bride is below 18 years of age, the Marriage Officer cannot solemnize the marriage. Existing Marriage If either party already has a living spouse and the earlier marriage has not been legally dissolved, the application may be rejected. False or Invalid Documents Submission of forged, incorrect, or misleading documents such as fake identity proof, age proof, or marital status documents can lead to rejection and may result in legal action. Lack of Valid Consent If either party is not giving free consent due to force, fraud, coercion, or undue influence, the marriage cannot be legally completed. Prohibited Relationship If the parties fall within prohibited degrees of relationship under the applicable law and no legal exception applies, the marriage application may be rejected. Incomplete Application Missing forms, signatures, photographs, witnesses, or required documents can result in delay or rejection. Objections to Marriage Under the Special Marriage Act, 1954, objections can be raised during the notice period. A valid legal objection may prevent the marriage from being solemnized until the issue is resolved. Wrong Jurisdiction If the parties apply before a Marriage Officer who does not have legal jurisdiction, the application may not be accepted. Failure to Appear If the parties or witnesses fail to appear before the Marriage Officer on the scheduled date, the process may not proceed. Unresolved Legal Issues Pending legal issues relating to identity, age, marital status, or other statutory requirements may lead to rejection. If a court marriage application is rejected, the parties may: Correct the deficiencies and submit a fresh application, where permitted. Provide additional documents or clarification. Challenge an unlawful rejection before the appropriate legal authority or court. The Marriage Officer can reject a court marriage application only on valid legal grounds. Personal dislike, religion, caste, or family opposition alone is not a valid reason to reject a lawful marriage application.
