The Indian Reserve Forces Act, 1888

(1) This Act may be called the Indian Reserve Forces Act,1888; and (2) It shall come into force on such day1 as the Central Government may, by notification in the OfficialGazette, appoint in this behalf.

1[2. Division of Reserve Forces into Regular and Supplementary Reserves.--The IndianReserve Forces shall consist of the Regular Reserve and the Supplementary Reserve.]

1*** A person belonging to the 2[Indian Reserve Forces] shallbe liable to serve beyond the limits of 3[India] as well as within those limits. 4* * * * *

1[(1)] The Central Governmentmay 2[by notification in the Official Gazette,] make rules and orders for the government, discipline andregulation of the Indian Reserve Forces. 2[(2) Every rule and every order made under sub-section (1) shall be laid, as soon as may be after it ismade, before each House of Parliament, while it is in session, for a total period of thirty days which maybe comprised in one session or in two or more successive sessions, and if, before the expiry of the sessionimmediately following the session or the successive sessions aforesaid, both Houses agree in mating anymodification in the rule or order or both Houses agree that the rule or order should not be made, the ruleor order shall thereafter have effect only in such modified form or of no effect, as the case may be; so,however, that any such modification or annulment shall be without prejudice to the validity of anythingpreviously done under that rule or order.]

Subject to 1*** such rules and orders asmay be made under section 4, a person belonging to the Indian Reserve Forces shall, as an officer, orsoldier, as the case may be, be subject to military law in the same manner and to the same extent as aperson belonging to 2[the Regular Army].
