To claim a TDS refund in India, you need to file your Income Tax Return (ITR). If the total TDS (Tax Deducted at Source) deducted from your income is more than your actual tax liability, the excess amount will be refunded by the Income Tax Department after processing your return. Here's a step-by-step guide: Step-by-Step Process to Claim TDS Refund in India: 1. Check Your TDS Details Before filing the return, verify how much TDS has been deducted. Visit: [https://www.incometax.gov.in](https://www.incometax.gov.in) Log in using your PAN and password Go to "View Form 26AS" or "Annual Information Statement (AIS)" Confirm the TDS amount, deductor details, and that it's correctly credited to your PAN. 2. File Your Income Tax Return (ITR) a. Choose Correct ITR Form: Select the appropriate ITR form based on your income type (ITR-1 for salaried individuals, ITR-3 for professionals, etc.). b. Report All Income: Include income from all sources—salary, interest, rent, capital gains, etc. c. Claim TDS Credit: Under the "TDS" section in the ITR form, enter the TDS details (as per Form 16 or Form 26AS). The system may auto-fill it if you use the pre-filled XML or online form. d. Calculate Refund: If your total tax liability is less than the TDS deducted, the excess is calculated as refund due. e. Verify Bank Account: Ensure your bank account (where you want the refund) is: Linked to your PAN Pre-validated on the income tax portal Has correct IFSC and account number 3. E-Verify Your ITR After filing, you must verify your return within 30 days to complete the process. You can e-verify using: Aadhaar OTP Net banking Bank account Demat account Digital signature 4. Track Your Refund Status Visit: [https://tin.tin.nsdl.com/oltas/refundstatuslogin.html](https://tin.tin.nsdl.com/oltas/refundstatuslogin.html) Or check refund status through the income tax portal under "My Account" > "Refund/Demand Status" 5. Wait for Refund Credit Once your ITR is processed and the refund is approved: It will be directly credited to your bank account by the CPC, Bengaluru. You’ll also get an intimation under Section 143(1) via email/SMS. Important Notes: You can only claim TDS refund through ITR filing, not by writing to the deductor or the department. Refunds are generally processed within 20–45 days after ITR processing, though it may vary. If there's any mismatch (e.g., TDS not reflecting in 26AS), your refund may get delayed or adjusted.

Dear Client, The following steps need to be taken to claim a TDS refund in India – 1. You have to go to the Income Tax e-filing portal and check if the TDS is deducted against your PAN in Form 26AS or AIS 2. You have to file your income and TDS details for the relevant assessment year in the correct ITR form. This is called filing Income Tax Return (ITR). An acknowledgement receipt will also be generated once you have submitted your ITR. 3. To claim a refund, there must be an excess amount. This means you will have to show that the TDS deducted is more than your actual tax liability. 4. You will also need to electronically verify the return. This can be done using Aadhaar OTP, net banking, or any other approved method of verification. 5. After this, the Income Tax Department Centralized Processing Centre (CPC) will process your return by matching your salary and TDS details. Then they will confirm the refund. 6. Once the refund is approved, it will be credited directly into your bank account, but such an account has to be pre-validated and linked with your PAN. This whole process of return usually takes a few weeks to a few months. I hope this answer helps. For any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you.
