To check the TDS (Tax Deducted at Source) deducted by your employer in India, you can follow a straightforward process that uses government portals and documents. Here’s a clear, step-by-step explanation: 1. Form 16 (TDS Certificate) from Employer Every employer who deducts TDS from your salary is required to issue Form 16 annually. Form 16 contains details of your salary, the TDS deducted, and deposited with the government. Usually, employers provide Form 16 after the end of the financial year (by June or July). Check Form 16 carefully to verify the total amount of TDS deducted and deposited. 2. Using the TRACES Website The government’s official portal for TDS information is TRACES (TDS Reconciliation Analysis and Correction Enabling System). Visit the TRACES website ([https://www.tdscpc.gov.in](https://www.tdscpc.gov.in)). You need to register/login using your PAN (Permanent Account Number). Under the "View TDS Credit" section, you can view the TDS details credited against your PAN. This shows TDS deducted by all deductors (including your employer) and deposited with the government. 3. Check Form 26AS Form 26AS is a consolidated tax statement issued by the Income Tax Department. It contains details of: TDS deducted and deposited by all deductors. Advance tax/self-assessment tax paid by you. Refunds received during the year. You can access Form 26AS through the Income Tax e-filing portal ([https://www.incometax.gov.in](https://www.incometax.gov.in)). Log in with your PAN, go to “My Account” > “View Form 26AS (Tax Credit).” This document confirms the exact TDS amount credited against your PAN, including by your employer. 4. Cross-Verification Match the TDS details in your Form 16 with Form 26AS. Both should tally; if there is a mismatch, inform your employer or deductor immediately. If your employer has not deposited the deducted TDS or delayed it, this mismatch will show up here. 5. Mobile Apps and Other Methods The Income Tax Department also provides a “TRACES” app and other tax filing apps where you can check TDS details. Some banks and financial services apps also allow you to check your TDS status if linked with your PAN. Summary: Ask your employer for Form 16 to see TDS deducted. Use the TRACES portal to check TDS credited by your employer. Verify through Form 26AS on the Income Tax e-filing website. Ensure that the TDS deducted and credited matches; if not, raise the issue promptly.
