Answer By law4u team

A Protection Officer is an important authority appointed under the law relating to domestic violence to help and support women who are facing abuse or harassment in a domestic relationship. The role of the Protection Officer is provided under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, which is implemented under the supervision of the Government of India and respective State Governments. The main duty of a Protection Officer is to assist the aggrieved woman in getting legal protection and relief from the court. When a woman files a complaint of domestic violence, the Protection Officer helps in preparing and submitting the Domestic Incident Report to the Magistrate. This report contains details of the violence, harassment, or threats faced by the woman. The Protection Officer also helps the woman to apply for different types of relief such as protection orders, residence orders, maintenance, custody orders, and compensation. They coordinate between the woman, the police, the court, medical facilities, and service providers to ensure that she receives proper assistance and safety. Another important role is to ensure that court orders are implemented properly. If the Magistrate passes a protection order or residence order, the Protection Officer monitors compliance and can inform the court if the respondent violates the order. The Protection Officer may also help the woman get medical treatment, safe shelter in a protection home or shelter home, and legal aid services if required. Their role is not only administrative but also supportive, ensuring that the victim is not left alone during the legal process. In simple terms, a Protection Officer acts as a bridge between the victim, the legal system, and support services to ensure that the woman receives protection, justice, and necessary assistance. If you want, I can also explain how to contact a Protection Officer or how a complaint is filed through them. Just let me know.

Dear Client, The Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act 2005 defines the Protection Officer function through Section 8 and Section 9. The State Government appoints Protection Officers through Section 8 so they can help Magistrates execute their work duties under this law. The Protection Officer must help the affected woman submit her Section 12 application while creating a Domestic Incident Report which he must send to both the Magistrate and police according to Section 9(1) requirements. The Protection Officer must guarantee the aggrieved person receives Legal Services Authorities legal assistance while they create safe shelter solutions according to Section 6 and handle medical examination procedures according to Section 7. The Protection Officer must deliver notice under Section 13 while also helping with protection orders and residence orders and monetary relief under Sections 18 19 and 20. The team functions as a connection between the aggrieved person and the police and service providers and the court. The Protection Officer needs to keep a record of service providers according to Section 9(1)(f) while making sure all service providers meet court requirements. The Act identifies punishment under Section 33 for individuals who fail to complete their work duties without providing a valid reason. The Protection Officer functions as the main facilitator who leads all protection activities while ensuring that all statutory protections of the Act function as they should. All documents handled by them serve as evidence which the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam 2023 recognizes under Sections 61 and 63. I hope the answer is helpful. For further queries, contact us. Thank you.
