Yes, there is a general format for filing an RTI (Right to Information) application in India. While there is no strict format mandated by law, an RTI application should be clear and precise in order to facilitate a timely response. Here's a simple and commonly followed format: --- RTI APPLICATION FORMAT Date: [Insert Date] To, The Public Information Officer (PIO) [Name of the Department/Organization] [Address of the Department/Organization] [City, State, Pin Code] Subject: Application under the Right to Information Act, 2005 Respected Sir/Madam, I, [Your Full Name], resident of [Your Address], hereby request the following information under the Right to Information Act, 2005: 1. [State your first question or request for information] 2. [State your second question or request for information] 3. [State any additional questions, if any] Particulars of the Information Required: - a. [Mention the specific documents, records, or details you are seeking] - b. [Provide any reference number or other details if applicable] I request the information in [mention the format preferred: e.g., hard copy, electronic format, etc.]. Fees: I am attaching a demand draft/pay order of ₹[mention the amount] towards the application fee. (The fee is usually ₹10, but check with the concerned public authority for any additional charges.) In case the information is not available, please provide the reasons for refusal as per Section 7 of the RTI Act, 2005. Declaration: I hereby declare that the information sought is not related to my personal or private work and pertains only to the functioning of public authority. Thank you. Yours faithfully, [Your Full Name] [Your Contact Information (Phone/Email)] [Your Signature (if submitting a physical application)] --- Important Notes: 1. Personal Details: You can provide your name, address, and contact details for correspondence purposes. 2. Application Fee: The standard fee for filing an RTI application is ₹10. You can pay through a Demand Draft (DD), Postal Order, or Banker's Cheque. In some cases, you may also be able to pay the fee in cash at the concerned office. 3. Information Requested: Be specific in mentioning the information you need. The more precise you are, the easier it will be for the PIO to provide the information. 4. Mode of Submission: You can submit the RTI application either in person, by post, or online (if the public authority has an online RTI portal). For online submissions, check if the public authority provides an online RTI portal, like the RTI Online Portal for central government departments.

Dear Client, You should remember including the following when applying for RTI: Applicant's Information: Full Name Father's/Husband's Name Permanent Address Telephone and Mobile Numbers A description of the data to be collected is important. What Is the Information About Specific Types of Information Which Are Required Information for a Specified Extension of Time How information should be sent to me (post, in person) Applications need to be accompanied by an Application Fee. The fee of ₹10 can be paid with Cash, Demand Draft, Banker’s Cheque or Indian Postal Order. People living below the poverty line are not required to pay the fee, but must show a BPL certificate. Declaration: A statement saying that the applicant is a citizen of India. A promise that data obtained will not be misused in a way that hurts the country’s unity and sovereignty. I hope this answer helps. In case of future queries please feel free to contact us. Thank you.
