Yes, it is a crime to imprison a person without any legal order. It is also called 'illegal arrest' or 'imprisonment without lawful order'. According to the Indian Penal Code, it is an offense to arrest a person without any legal order or warrant without any criminal action. Fines, punishment or other legal action can be taken under this crime. Moreover, according to the Indian constitution, every person has the right to have the liberty and freedom of his life and to live freely without any kind of penalty.
