IPC (Indian Penal Code) Sections 279, 338, and 304 are applied in cases related to road accidents causing injury or death to a person. These sections deal with the offenses of rash driving or riding on a public way, causing grievous hurt by an act of negligence, and culpable homicide not amounting to murder, respectively. Section 279 of the IPC deals with the offense of rash driving or riding on a public way. This section states that whoever drives any vehicle on a public way in a manner that is rash or negligent, and endangers human life or is likely to cause hurt or injury to any other person, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to six months, or with fine which may extend to one thousand rupees, or with both. Section 338 of the IPC deals with the offense of causing grievous hurt by an act of negligence. This section states that whoever causes grievous hurt to any person by doing any act which is negligent and endangers human life or the personal safety of others, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine which may extend to one thousand rupees, or with both. Section 304 of the IPC deals with the offense of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. This section states that whoever causes the death of any person by doing any act with the intention of causing death, or with the intention of causing such bodily injury as is likely to cause death, or with the knowledge that such act is likely to cause death, but without any intention to cause death or to cause such bodily injury as is likely to cause death, shall be punished with imprisonment for life, or with imprisonment for a term which may extend to ten years, and shall also be liable to fine. Therefore, in cases related to road accidents causing injury or death to a person, depending on the severity and circumstances of the accident, one or more of these IPC sections may be applied by the authorities to prosecute the offender.
