If you are involved in a motor accident in India, it is important to report the accident to the police. The process for reporting a motor accident to the police in India is as follows: Call the Police: The first step is to call the police by dialing the emergency number 100 or the local police station number in the area where the accident occurred. Provide your name, contact number, location of the accident, and a brief description of what happened. Wait for the Police: Wait at the scene of the accident until the police arrive. Do not move the vehicles involved in the accident until the police have arrived and instructed you to do so. Provide Information: When the police arrive, provide them with your driving license, vehicle registration certificate, and insurance documents. Also, provide the names and contact information of any witnesses to the accident. Lodge an FIR: The police will prepare an FIR (First Information Report) documenting the accident, including the names of the drivers, vehicle registration numbers, and a description of the accident. You should receive a copy of the FIR, which is an important legal document that you may need for insurance and legal purposes. Obtain a P.I.M: If there are any injuries or damage to property as a result of the accident, the police may also prepare a P.I.M (Property Irregularity Memo). This document records details of the damage, and you will need to obtain a copy of it to submit it to your insurance company. Follow up: If you need to make a claim with your insurance company, you will need to provide them with a copy of the FIR and P.I.M, as well as any other relevant documents. It is important to follow up with the police to obtain a copy of the FIR and P.I.M as soon as possible after the accident.
