For GST (Goods and Services Tax) registration in India, businesses must provide certain documents to comply with the requirements set by the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN). These documents ensure the eligibility of the applicant for GST registration and help establish the business's legal and financial standing. Documents Required for GST Registration: PAN (Permanent Account Number) of the Business/Applicant: The PAN is mandatory for all businesses and individuals applying for GST registration, as it serves as the unique identity of the applicant under the tax laws. Aadhaar Card: Aadhaar card of the authorized signatory or the individual applying for GST registration (in case of individual businesses). This is used for identity verification. Proof of Business Registration or Incorporation: For sole proprietorships: A bank statement or utility bill can suffice. For partnership firms: The partnership deed. For LLPs (Limited Liability Partnerships): The Certificate of Incorporation issued by the Registrar of Companies (RoC). For private/public limited companies: The Certificate of Incorporation. For trusts/societies: The registration certificate. Business Address Proof: Electricity bill, telephone bill, lease/rent agreement, or ownership documents (if the property is owned by the applicant) for the business premises. The business address should be a valid and operational address where the business is carried out. Bank Account Statement: A cancelled cheque or bank statement containing the name and address of the business along with the bank account number and IFSC code. This document is used to verify the business's account and ensure that it matches the GST registration details. Photographs: Recent passport-sized photographs of the authorized signatory or the individual applying for GST registration. Details of Goods and Services Provided: The applicant must provide a brief description of the goods or services being offered by the business. This helps to determine the appropriate tax classification. Authorization Letter (in case of company or partnership): An authorization letter from the board of directors (for companies) or partners (for partnerships) authorizing a person to apply for GST registration on behalf of the business. Other Documents (if applicable): GST Registration of Existing Businesses: If the business is already registered under any other tax scheme (such as VAT, Service Tax, etc.), provide the VAT/TIN number or any relevant registration number. Handover/Transfer of Goods: In case of interstate transactions or a business with multiple units, a list of goods being supplied or sold along with details of the units. Details of Directors/Partners: In case of companies or partnerships, details of the directors or partners along with their PAN and address proof may also be required. Special Cases for GST Registration: For Non-Resident Taxable Persons: Non-resident individuals or businesses applying for GST registration must provide: Passport or another identity proof. Letter of Authorization from a representative to act on their behalf. For Casual Taxable Persons: Casual taxable persons who temporarily engage in business activities must provide: Details of the business or the temporary location of business. Conclusion: The documents required for GST registration help ensure the legality of the business and that it is operating within the framework of Indian tax laws. It is important to keep these documents handy and ensure their authenticity while applying for GST registration to avoid any delays or issues with the registration process.
